Hello :)
It has been a couple weeks since my last blog post! To catch you up quickly, I enjoyed my time at home but didn't enjoy the cold! I worked with my swing coach and felt good about my swing thoughts going into my next stretch of events. I also went to a Brewers game and had a lot of fun seeing a great win by them. Thankfully the roof was closed because it was only 43 degrees out! I was happy to practice a couple days at Racine CC and can't wait to practice my short game there once it's warmer this summer.
I've been in FL for about two weeks now and have been enjoying the warm sun! I have an absolutely amazing group of people in Sarasota that I met last year who have been wonderful throughout my season with housing and golf practice at their courses. I practiced for just under a week in Sarasota before my tournament (Guardian Retirement Championship) at Sara Bay CC in Sarasota started. I was also invited to play in my first shamble on Easter morning. I had such a great time because I played four holes with each of the four groups. After we played we had a delicious Easter brunch at Laurel Oak CC. Their food is always so great!
Once the tournament week started I volunteered to help at the junior golf clinic. I helped the kids at the short game station. I had such a fun time helping the kids, especially when their faces lit up with excitement when they hit a good chip. It was rewarding to give back and help the junior golfers because of all the help I had received when I was little. The rest of the week went well with my practice rounds and I felt good about my game. My mom and sister were able to come down and visit during my tournament. I really enjoyed having them visit/stay with me for the week because its been a while since they have been able to make it to a tournament. We had a lot of fun staying on Siesta Key and taking numerous walks on the beach. They were also able to see what life on the road was like when I had two tee times that required 5:30am wake up calls! I'm not sure who was more tired after the rounds :)
As for my tournament, I shot 77-75-78 and finished in a T65 place. It wasn't my best tournament but even with playing poorly for a couple of holes I still managed to keep my game together for playing on Sunday. Sara Bay CC is a Donald Ross designed golf course, and I would say these greens are the toughest we see all season long. I played better than my score but unfortunately had some chipping and putting errors that hurt me. My driver was great all week long and I thought I did a good job of giving myself scoring chances but wasn't able to capitalize on them. I am happy to say that I'm now 4/4 on cuts made and still see improvements since last year. Even though I didn't play how I would have liked I still found positives from my tournament. A big thank you to my caddie Mary Ann for helping out all week and for playing a practice round with me at my Ft. Myers tournament course.
Another big thank you goes to Rita and Ian for being an unbelievable help with housing! It is amazing to me to think of meeting these three people last year and how much help they have given me when I'm in Sarasota. I'm so grateful that this crazy game of golf gives me the opportunity to meet such wonderful people! I definitely have a feeling of being home while away from my actual home.
I also received some new Eliza Audley clothes and love them! Her new line is really cute and I'm excited to start wearing some of the new outfits! This weekend I will be playing in Ft Myers. I'm looking forward to playing again and improving on some of my golf game mistakes from last week.
Until next time, fairways and greens!
