Another tournament complete, another cut made!
I just finished up my third tournament of the season at Alaqua CC in Longwood, FL. I left for Longwood on Monday March 24 but first had to make a stop at the Orlando Outlets with some friends. I've never seen a place so busy!! It took me about 20 minutes to find a parking spot. There were five of us who met there and we had a fun day away from the golf course. I ended up not buying anything which was disappointing but I still had a lot of fun! I was able to get all settled into my host housing for the night which was quite the experience to find housing! The previous week during my tournament in Lake Wales, I was told that there wasn't enough host housing in Longwood for me. When I received that email I went into a somewhat panic mode! Thankfully I have an amazing group of people (they are like family) that I met in Sarasota last year that were able to help me out! They found me housing right near Alaqua and it turned out great. Thank you to Lou for being such a sweet lady and being a great host during my time at Alaqua!
I played a practice round on Tuesday and it was the Chipotle challenge match with three friends. My friend Maddie and I were successful in winning a delicious burrito bowl for lunch! It kept our practice round fun and it was nice to play for something. Can't go wrong with a match for food! Alaqua was a different FL course then what we were used to seeing. Your tee shots needed to be more accurate with tighter fairways of being tree lined and there was a fair amount of water all throughout the course. Some of the greens were tiny too! There were some greens that were only 20-25 yards long and for those of you that golf, you know that is on the smaller side! I played 9 holes on Wednesday and another 9 holes on Thursday. I felt comfortable with the golf course and thought it might be a good advantage to me with playing a tighter course. I also made sure to put extra time into my short game since I had trouble with it last week.
I was the last tee time on Friday and we barely made it! The last hole and a half was on the darker side of little daylight. I shot (+2) 73 that round and saw things in my game that were both good and bad. After four holes I had hit two balls in the water which is very unlike me! I was able to turn it around was -1 through 15 holes but made a short game mistake on my 16th hole. Even though my round started out rough I was happy to see I made 5 birdies that day. I don't know the last time I had more than 3 birdies in round. The next day I was the first tee time. It was a very fast turnaround from finishing in the dark to then arriving at the golf course the next morning in the dark. We were only able to finish 17 holes because of a storm in the area. Play resumed on Sunday and all I had to play was one hole! The good thing was that we were starting at 10am and I could stay up later to watch my Badgers beat Arizona :) My heart was pounding during the final minutes of the basketball game but I was so happy to see them win!! It was little hard to fall asleep because of the win but well worth it to watch that game! The next day I made par on 18 and finished with another (+2) 73. My putter wasn't as hot as Friday's round but I played pretty steady golf the whole second round. I made the cut and we played the final found on Monday. My final round wasn't good but it wasn't awful. I shot (+1) 72 and finished in T44th place.
Overall, I'm am starting to see bad round scores become lower than what they were last year. This was/is a goal of mine to continue throughout the season. I want to be able to make bad round scores stay lower so that I can still be in pretty good positions in my tournaments. This tournament also had a round where my putting was really good. I'm still seeing progress which is exciting! Now to make myself have 3 good rounds!
The tour has 3 off weeks now so I'm going to enjoy some time back at home and be ready to go formy next tournament at Sara Bay in Sarasota, FL!
